Specials bassist: Future unclear after Bradbury death

03/01/2016

The bassist of 2 Tone group The Specials says the death of drummer John 'Brad' Bradbury has left the band's future unclear.

Bradbury, who died aged 62, helped produce the Special AKA's 'Free Nelson Mandela', after the original lineup disbanded. He was also an integral part of the Specials re-forming in 2008.

Bassist Horace Panter said: "Brad was like the signature sound of The Specials... so I don't honestly don't know what's going to happen."

"There were four of us left out of the original seven, there are only three now... once the dust has settled on all this, there are some practical issues to be discussed".

The elephant in the room has been spotted, huh.

I always thought that Brad and Horace would be unreplaceable. Having said that, I thought it about Jerry as well, and couldn't have been more wrong, Nik does a great job.

The 1990s MKII lineups did OK without many of the originals. Bad Manners still sound like Bad Manners as long as Doug is still singing. Would the Specials still sound like the Specials as long as Terry and Lyn are singing?

Hmm.

No offence to Nik but he was brought in a session keyboard player, but as a replacement for Jerry Dammers??? Do we even want to go there?

I don't think it is a case of spotting an elephant in the room, I think it would be inappropriate for any band member to be discussing the future of the band so soon following Johns recent passing.

If Horace had said that they are already looking for a new drummer and planning the future, it would of shown a lack of respect, and of course - that is not the case.
