Thursday 26th January is the first of a three part documentary about British youths from the 50s, 60s and then the 70's.
9pm on the Yesterday channel (virgin 203, freeview 12, and sky 537)


Starting with:
Here come the Teds.
Then the Mods, Then the Punks...


This is what it says on the Yesterday channels website;

'In this first episode, Suggs takes a look at post-war Britain in the 50s where the word teenager didn't even exist.

Instead children simply left school and entered straight into adult life by getting a job, getting married and having children themselves.

In an era where homes finally got the washing machine, electric fire and the telephone, young adults were also starting their own rebellious uprising.

Bored of following the establishment, they decided to cry out to society by donning drainpipe trousers, drape jackets and crepe shoes to form the well known culture of the Teddy Boys.

Suggs takes viewers back in time to explore the music, fashions and rebellious attitudes of the 50s teens.

Don't forget your hair grease and comb.'

I watched the first one about the teds and was suprised to see a few old teds with tattoos on there faces .They had the swallows on both sides of there forehead and i have never seen them on there before .I know a lot of people from the rock and roll scene had swallows on there necks or on the back of the hand near the base of the thumb ,and another ted had a tat of i think a guitar on his cheekbone .

The programme was interesting, but what was missing though was the MUSIC!

Plus Rock 'n' Roll was more than Just Elvis and Bill.

I feel the programme lacked the energy and excitment that music gives to portay a Youth Cult.

So glad the EDWARDIAN TEDS hated SHOWWADDY WADDY etc!

In the late 70's/early 80's my brother and his mates, were all into MUD, Showwiddy doodoo etc and thought they were TEDS.

I found a couple of Drapes in Oxfam and wore them regular with my zipped shirt, ripped jeans, Dr Martens, studded belts n wristbands, safety pins,badges etc topped off with Bleached spikey hair. That really pissed them off. Playing SID's versions of Something Else and C'mon Everybody at full blast did'nt help!

I love Raw Rockabilly but why originally did the TEDS hate ROCKABILLY's? All fine now though.

Rockabilly events are very friendly affairs. Great music, gals and wicked cars, especially the RUST BUCKETS!

RETROVILLE has some great stuff on it.

I came across this track, and while watching all the bike pics, reminded me of Marlon Brando's THE WILD ONE film. So tonight thats what going to be destroying any TV programmes. Hope my darling enjoys the choice
