No, not music critics who didn't enjoy a gig...critics of his decision to play in Israel. I'd be interested to see the views of the forum to the article:

JOHN LYDON SLAMS CRITICS OVER ISRAEL SHOW

Punk legend JOHN LYDON has furiously defended his decision to play a gig in Israel - insisting he will not be bullied into axing the show.

The rocker - known in his Sex Pistols heyday as Johnny Rotten - is taking his reformed band, Public Image Ltd. (PiL), to Tel Aviv to headline the Heineken Music Conference 2010 Festival in August (10).

The planned show has been met with criticism and hate mail from some fans who insist he should follow Elvis Costello's lead and boycott the country in protest over its policy towards Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Campaigners in Lydon's native Britain are even planning demonstrations outside a PiL concert in Leeds, England on Friday (23Jul10), but the punk star is adamant he won't cancel the Israel show - and he is livid at the controversy his decision has caused.

He tells British newspaper The Independent, "I really resent the presumption that I'm going there to play to right-wing Nazi jews. If Elvis-f**king-Costello wants to pull out of a gig in Israel because he's suddenly got this compassion for Palestinians, then good on him.

"But I have absolutely one rule, right? Until I see an Arab country, a Muslim country, with a democracy, I won't understand how anyone can have a problem with how they're treated."

thats a ridiculous thing for him to say!!!
Its like saying any black person living in south africa deserved to be under apartheid because black african nations have a poor record as governments!
Really i usually find his self justification amusing but thats just stupid!! Shocked

and i'm not commenting on the political situation in israel as i'm probably not qualified, just on the stupidness of his argument that you shouldnt care what happens to individuals because of what other people with the same skin colour or religion has done something stupid or cruel.

I'm a fan of both the butter ads and P.I.L but I agree with Dan on this one.

I remember Cliff Richard used to try and justify playing Sun City (in South Africa) by saying, "ahh, but there's racism in America too."

I doubt he's furious or livid. He probably couldn't care less.

If the money's right, I'm sure he'd play anywhere! If the 'original punk' can advertise butter then I'm sure playing in Israel is of very little concern to him. Money talks.

Mr Lydon obviously thinks that the people of the West Bank and Gaza Strip ,and indeed all Palestinians, should suffer because of the sins of others.

I've been a huge Pistols fan all my life, but one then they got horribly wrong was the use of swastikas. I am sure Malcolm McLaren's head it was just fine and dandy to use Nazi imagery to shock, but when you see hundreds of Neo-Nazis on the march screaming for blood and carrying that very same flag it's a bit late to try and distance yourself from it.

Looks like Lydon has learnt nothing from the past.

The ironic thing is there were loads of muslim nazis.

Beats me why Elvis Costello binned the Israel gig but saying that there can't be that many over there whos ever heard of him.

Well done to John for giving the beleaguered Israelis a decent night out.

Big Als probably after him now Laughing

always thought lydon and inded the rest of the sex pistols were massively overrated( some good tunes but thats it) a second rate boy band at best.
but lydon is an idiot always has been and always will be, all he is doing is showing his true colours, money money money. he is the one think that he would not admit to A CAPATLIST

Interesting.

How do you know that Sugar?

I'd have thought Terry couldn't care less knowing him.

Saying that isn't he part Jewish?
