My favourite Alex story is when he was partying with Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones in Dublin back in the '80s. When the clubs shut they all headed back to Ronnies big mansion in Kildare, about 40 miles from Dublin. Somehow they lost Alex on route as they left. Undeterred Alex jumped into a cab and made his way to about 3 or 4 miles from Ronnies place, at that stage he had a massive barney with the taxi man and got thrown out of the cab. Alex being Alex proceeded to grab a kids Chopper from a garden and completed the journey by bike. Imagine the stoned rockstars looking out the window and seeing Alex cycling like a mad man up the driveway.
Very sad that he died alone in social housing. Heard Eamon Dunphy on the radio this morning saying that Alex and George Best came from the same small area of East Belfast. Must have been some place back in the 50s and 60s. |

I remember when he made what i think was the greatest clearance i've ever seen in the 1982 World Championhip semi final against Jimmy White under unbelievable pressure. Incredible talent.

I always think a great shame when someone dies in poverty when they been at the top of what they do. Saw him once at Eltham snooker hall he was as pissed as a rat and an hour late and none of the tricks worked and we all had a great time. Dunphy's full of shite. Higgins was from Sandy Row/Donegall Road in South Belfast, Best was from Cregagh in the East _________________ 54 - 46 was my number |

Sorry Mac - old Dunphy can play a bit fast with the truth when it suits him.
What about Van Morrisson? Dunphy lumped him in with Higgins and Best as well and said they all came from the same area. Dont know Belfast that well myself. |
