They were such a great band. The sound, the style, just the who package.
Why and how did it go from this to poncing around in dungarees with fiddles? _________________ Richard Eddington is innocent.

I always thought if Dexys and UB40 had signed to 2 Tone it would have done wonders to the label’s longevity. Circumstances certainly got the better of 2 Tone at the time at it quickly became what Dammer’s rightly called ‘a Frankenstein’s Monster’ with no one really knowing what was going on. Taking a step back and broadening the label’s horizons could have helped, but was never really on the cards.
I can’t imagine Kevin Rowland’s ego helping matters either. _________________ Richard Eddington is innocent.

It could have on paper, though on the other hand it might have rendered the careers of both bands stillborn. By the time Dexys and UB put out their debut singles, The Specials and Selecter were constantly on the road or recording, so there was no-one to really look after new signings.
I watched that Young Guns documentary on Dexys again today. I completely admire Kevin Rowland's passion and commitment but quite sad to see the damage it caused him and other members of his bands.
