So how do people think things will go without Neville up front on this tour?
Its one thing to replace Jerry, even if he was such a big influence on the band, but Neville? He is the ying to Terry's yang, who will take on his roll? Who else could give it Bernie Rhodes Know's....like him not to mention lead on Monkey Man, Stupid Marriage etc.... |

I do think they will be very good, but it will be a new Specials experience.
I am sure it will be a great show to see yet i do have reservations that there is no Nev, maybe it is a last big paypacket before retirement? I am glad i have only got tickets for Manchester which in all honesty i may sell , 80 odd quid is a lot of money for me to shell out. I have seen them 7 times on the last 2 uk tours, so i may bow out with the great memories of those shows rather than run the risk of being a tad dissappointed with the upcoming gigs. There are lots of people on here the real die hards who will go and see them no matter who is or who isn't in the band. Nev is a huge loss as we all know , the final nail in the coffin of one of the greatest bands to come from these shores? Only time will tell. _________________ Just because I look Jolly doesn't mean I am feckin Jolly |

nev obviously has a massive stage presense and that will be missed, but then so have rod, lyn and horace. terry just hides by the drums.and occasionally rips the piss out of something ( very funny tho)
musically it wont be that much different, lynval will have most of nevs parts sorted, theyve got the rodster aswell, (if they turn his mike on)
and songs like stupid marriage wernt on the 1st tour anyway,
in some ways this opens up the set list to do some of the other stuff, like sock it jb, maggies farm, maybe even the odd female guest spot to perform i just cant stand it....
i know nev leaving is sad, but one must look on the positive side and if the specials as a band are clever, they could do some intresting stuff,
a different show from the other past 3 years and if this is the last major tour, then you might as well take a risk and do something completly out the box,,
a cover version of nelson mandela, haha..or just use a hologram,,, or nev on a gaint screen or nik could just sample nevs vocal bits... turn a problem into a creative opportunity... ...if there clever that is... _________________ www.soundcloud.com/theatreofghosts

I'n glad this has been bought up. I am majorly dissapointed and do not really understand the reasons. Am I right in thinking it's health and what the gruel of a nightly tour does?
Any way why can't we have a special guest to fill his shoes Ranking Roger or Chas from Madness maybe????

Neville has a massive vocal presence in several Specials songs, a very powerful voice, Lynval no doubt will fill the gap but he doesn't have the same booming voice which injects the energy into the songs.
There is only one Judge Roughneck, and I feel his absence will be felt a lot more than Jerrys was - possible new song writing aside (Nik has done a great job there)
I hope I am wrong, and will still be going to Manchester in May _________________ Bernie Rhodes Knows - Dont Argue |

Of course, in life when you lose a big personality it can tell. I think Nevs absence can have the effect of pulling off a better show because they have to work harder. At Maida Vale, they pulled it off on a smaller scale and to be honest, it was a relaxed affair without intensity needed for big live shows which I think will transfer to the big stage well. Time will tell of course but lets see where all this goes. Its really dawning of a new era but have faith. I dont think youll be disappointed. There are still more original members in that outfit than in most of the 2Tone acts banging about today (bar Madness obviously but they change all the time)
Enjoy the shows. _________________ ANGER IS AN ENERGY

During the 20 odd wilderness years, would you have been happy to have a tour with 5 of the original 7 to look forward to?
Fcuking sure you would!
People have short memories. Love Neville but whats done is done. Support the 5 and move on |

What about the 5 moving on and stop being their own tribute act? _________________ Richard Eddington is innocent.

It appears that Brad and Terry have got a few new songs and ideas up their sleeves. Fingers crossed they'll be good. I'd rather the new material was realeased under a differnt name though.
It would be interesting if Nev were to make a new album with guest spots from Dick, Rico and Jerry _________________ I got one art O'level it did nothing for me |

Each to their own Trojan, you obviously feel strongly about new material, I don't.
I will be first in line if new material is released, if not, I know I will still enjoy the gigs greatly and will miss the band when they do finish up. |
