I met him once. He was great. It was at a signing event for the release of the Fireball XL5 boxset at the Odeon on Shaftesbury Avenue. That can't have been more than a couple of years ago. I don't normally do signed stuff - less so still when you've gotta queue up to get it done, but I went to that.
The stuff he was responsible for, it would be simply impossible to name my favourite. He never stopped moving either; the CGI re-interpretation of Captain Scarlet from relatively recently was as exciting as anything he ever made. & although he wasn't the first to make a cartoon that looked like that, that sort of animation is extremely common now.
In my little nerdy world, he was this country's answer to Stan Lee. Loads less brash and (jovially) full of his own genius maybe - but he was that special.
