Looking forward to hearing the full album, I never listen to those snippets. I listened to Made In Britain yesterday It's a Modern Classic _________________ I'm having bags of fun |

Way too clean and clinical sounding for me.........not the earthy sound of the Selecter that I loved so much.
Some good songs but really mourn the way that Anthony Harty has to try and sound like Neol Davies especially on the celebrate'esque London's burning. Would much rather have the real thing even though Greg Coulson on the keyboards is amazing,
All they need to do is get Neol & Aitch back and as if by magic.....the real Selecter.
In the meantime, this is not the Selecter for me. He lives in Coventry and unfortunately performs rarely these days which is a travesty. |

Funny cos I was thinking that some of the tracks really reminded me of first two albums - certainly on first listening.... ain't music great probably agree that they sound a bit as if they have been written for Pauline's voice rather than being Selecter songs which Pauline sang on if you know what I mean... _________________ www.theskamasters.com |

I kind of agree but it is 30yrs since those halcyon days and times a change. At least they are coming out with new stuff unlike some |

I've just had a listen - I think it was probably the varied range of responses here that made me curious enough.
The first one I listened to - for want of a better way of putting it - was fucking awful. It had this very brief lush string intro before some ridiculous beat kicked in that sounded like Aqua or Whigfield or something. I actually laughed.
In fairness I do think it was just an unlucky choice - because I listened to a couple more after that and I thought they were ok. I neither loved or hated them - they were simply alright.
And at the risk of starting another bloody conversation over whether or not The Specials should do new material - unless its excellent I really hope they don't bother. Hearing stuff such as this makes me more convinced of that. But I suppose my "alright" is another man's "great". |

They just sound like every other ‘3rd wave’ ska band now. That very distinctive Selecter sound was last heard on the Celebrate the Bullet album.. Still, at least they are coming up with new material. _________________ Richard Eddington is innocent.

I've just played the track that actually made me laugh this morning again. In truth I think I might have over-done the criticism somewhat. I'm not saying I loved it, but comparing it to Barbie Girl is actually quite unfair.
It was about 7am and I was on a train to Crewe at the time; cut me some slack please. |

Well, I really like the music of 667 - I think that track could have been a great instrumental or worked well as a theme tune or soundtrack for something. Nice drum intro, lovely organ playing and great horns.
In my opinion its the lyrics that let the side down on a few songs.
For example: "ooh la la la - He thinks he is so post modern... he champions all of the downtrodden and enjoys feeling at the bottom ooh la la... ooh la la... He prays like a lapsed Christian...some say he has a lack of vision." _________________ I got one art O'level it did nothing for me |
