Robbo has just put one of these on Facebook and I had a do double take - I can now see where he's got it from! Very Happy

I was at this gig and it was the first time I went to Hammersmith Palais. It was a Sunday night and it didnt finish til VERY late and my father went fucking bonkers at me when I got in around 1.30am. It was unquestionably amongst the biggest teenage bollockings I ever got. I'd have been 14 years old and I had school the next day. He subsequently stormed into my bedroom at around 7am the next day and literally dragged me outta bed.

It was the only time I ever saw Lords Of The New Church (who were support). I'm racking my brains now and someone else was on that night of sorta minor significance (at the time at least).

I had - and still have - a crappy old bootleg tape of this. To what I believed was my certain knowledge, it was the only recording of this that existed. I've also got a little A4 poster of it somewhere (which came from Rock On in Camden - as they sold Palais tickets at the time).

Shaunius has a theory that butcher's always have massive noses, and anyone with a big nose should be a butcher. Roman Jugg would've been the butcher of all time.

The Captain had a tendency to get his kit off Marigold - one of the downsides of seeing the Damned a lot in those days (at that point in my life they REALLY were the only band that mattered) was a completely naked Sensible wasn't unusual Very Happy

I used to have a bootleg tape of that gig also, i used to have many damned bootlegs. Since Sensible had his Happy Talk hit alot of mums and dads would take their children to see the good old funny Captain and would then be outraged at his onstage antics Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing long live the mighty Captain Sensible Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

Machine Gun Etiquette and The Black Album are two lp's any band would be proud of.

& I would also unquestionably add Damned Damned Damned and Phantasmagoria to that list.

I also think that Music For Pleasure would've been much more positively received, and subsequently better regarded today if it's cover hadn't been so bad. All in all it doesnt stand up alongside the other LPs, but it's not the catastrophe it's always been made out to be.
